The kitchen is full of ingredients to help kids explore the mysteries of science. For example, milk, a child's favorite food, can also help children explore chemistry. Today, Alpha Science Classroom uses milk, white vinegar, and baking soda to turn milk into glue with your kids, allowing them to learn about the magic of chemistry and become the best kitchen scientists in the world through simple kid's science experiments!

Alpha Science Classroom: To make glue with milk, you need:

  • milk

  • White vinegar

  • baking soda

  • Saucepan

  • water

  • Filter

Alpha Science Classroom: How to make milk glue

Step 1: The children need to divide the milk into curd and whey. Heat 1 and a half cups of milk in a pot and add 3 teaspoons of white vinegar after heating.

Step 2: The children continue to heat and stir the mixture. The children should see the curd (solid part) and whey (liquid part) separate.

Step 3: The children filter the mixture through a sieve. Children should leave solid clumps, and they can shape them together into a ball. These are curds.

Step 4: The children put the solid mixture back into the pot, add a little water and a tablespoon of baking soda.Heat the mixture until it starts to foam.

Step 5: The children stir well and let it cool down. Kids can now use it as glue. Children may need to add some water or baking soda until they get the correct consistency. It should look like a thick paste.

The alpha science classroom tests our egg cartons by gluing two egg cartons together (both egg cartons contain eggs, so they are heavy). It is effective! !!

Alpha Science Classroom: Principle of milk glue Science

The Alpha Science Classroom tells the children what happened to the milk. By adding vinegar, the children will produce a chemical reaction, so that the milk is divided into two parts, solid (curd) and liquid (whey). Curd is a milk protein called casein. Liquid casein is natural gum.

When baking soda is added, it will neutralize the vinegar (acidity). The bubbles are caused by the release of carbon dioxide gas during the reaction. After the curd is neutralized, it becomes liquid again.

The kids didn't know there was chemical magic lurking in the kitchen, Alpha Science Classroom and the children made a kid's science experiments activity of transforming milk into gelatin. Did the children learn the chemistry knowledge? If you want to explore more about the kitchen science experiment. Kids can go to Alpha Science Toys to choose their own science experiment kits for children, and explore more interesting science mysteries together!
