Alpha science classroom knows that children like to try various shapes of sand on the beach or in the park. Wetting the sand with water to make an ideal sandcastle is one of the children's favorite outdoor activities. Today, alpha science classrooms and children make magic sand that will not be soaked by water, witnessing the magical interaction of science experiments for kids, and letting children have a special science experiment activity for kids.

Alpha science classroom: Magic Sand (also known as Aqua Sand or Space Sand) is a type of sand that doesn't get wet when placed in water. You can make your own Magic Sand at home by following a few simple steps.

alpha science classroom thinks basically. all you need to do is coat the sand with a waterproofing chemical. Just gather:

1. Clean sand.

2. Waterproof spray (Scotchguard, etc. can be found in supermarkets).

3. Glass bottle

Alpha science classroom: How to Make Magic Sand.

Step 1: Place the sand in a small pan or bowl.

Step 2: Evenly spray the surface of the sand with the waterproofing chemical. You may need to shake the container of sand to expose untreated surfaces. You don't have to drown the sand in the chemical—you'll have enough once the sand changes from looking dry to appearing wet.

Step 3: All the children need to do is to let the sand dry. After doing this, the children can pour the sand into the water and it won’t become wet. Isn’t it amazing?

Alpha science classroom: the scientific principles of Magic Sand.

Alpha science classroom: Today's Science Experiment Activity For Kids is a great demonstration to introduce students to the properties of substances that are hydrophobic and hydrophilic. Hydrophobic substances do not mix with water. The term “water-fearing” is often used to describe the word hydrophobic. Hydrophilic substances, on the other hand, are “water-loving.” Notice how the drops of food coloring color only the water and not the oil. Since oil is hydrophobic, the oil did not mix with the food coloring or the water.

So, how does the Magic Sand work? Magic Sand Toys, Aqua Sand, and Space Sand consist of colored sand that has been coated with trimethylsilyl. This is a water-repellent or hydrophobic organosilicon molecule that seals any cracks or pits in the sand and prevents water from sticking to it. Magic Sand appears silvery in water because hydrogen bonding between water molecules causes the water to form a bubble around the sand. This is critical to how the sand functions because if the water didn't stick to itself so well, the anti-wetting agent wouldn't be effective.
