Alpha science classroom：DIY Unicorn Bath Bomb Chemistry Experiments for Kids

Alpha science classroom：DIY Unicorn Bath Bombs Recipe

• 1 cup baking soda

• 1/2 cup citric acid

• 1/2 cup cornstarch

• 1/4 cup SLSA

• 1/4 cup Epsom salts

• 1 tablespoon Polysorbate 80

• 1/3 cup coconut oil

• 10-20 drops of Geranium essential oil

• 1 teaspoon of hibiscus oil (or another floral scent)

• 1 tablespoon each of Teal, blue, pink, purple, and gold mica powder

• Spray bottle of rubbing alcohol

• 1 large mixing bowl

• 6 smaller mixing bowls

Alpha science classroom：How to make a unicorn horn bath bomb

Step 1: Children need to add baking soda, citric acid, SLSA, cornstarch, and Epsom salt in a large mixing bowl.

Step 2: Children need to add coconut oil, polysorbate 80, geranium oil, and hibiscus oil in a small mixing bowl, and mix well. Then put the mixture in a large bowl and mix everything together. Mix all the ingredients until it has the texture of wet sand and hold it together while pressing. It is best to complete this step by hand. If necessary, use disposable gloves.

Step 3: Children need to divide the mixture evenly into 5 smaller bowls, add mica powder and mix well, color each bowl. Our five colors are gold, teal, blue, pink, and purple. Children can change it to their preferred color combination as needed, and children will repeat the color layering until the mold is full.

Step 4: Children let the mold harden for at least 48 hours. They need to be completely dry, so if you touch the bottom and feel damp, let them dry for another 24 hours. The length of the drying time will vary according to the environmental conditions in which the children live.

Step 5:When children prepare to take out the DIY unicorn bath bomb from the mold, put a large plate or cutting board on the mold, and then gently flip it over. Carefully slide each mold onto the board or cutting board. The more layers you add to the bath bomb mold, the more fragile they become, so take a moment!

Finally, children can tap the side to help release it from the mold, and then store the made unicorn bath bomb in a closed container until it can be used. When children are ready to bathe with unicorns, put one in the bathtub and enjoy! These smell amazing!!!

Alpha science classroom：Acid-base reaction

The Alpha Science classroom told the children that the bomb is an acid-base reaction. Just like some of our favorite experiments in the past, such as "Bottled Rockets" or "Hatch Dinosaur Eggs". In this formula, our base is baking soda and our acid is citric acid.

When we mix citric acid and baking soda, we get a huge response immediately. For the bath bomb, we need to add another ingredient to trigger the reaction, namely water. After adding water, the reaction will begin and our unicorn bath bomb will start to bubble and bubble.
