Alpha science classroom: How do you make a dinosaur fossil?

Publish Time: 2021-09-01     Origin: Site

Children like to go to museums to explore historical artifacts of different eras, especially dinosaur fossils and dinosaur eggs. Do children know how dinosaur fossils were formed?  There's no time travel machine, but kids don't have to worry. Today, Alpha Science Classroom works with kids to create their own dinosaur fossil models at home using items already in the kitchen for this fun DIY kids science experiment!  The fascination of science experiments for children.

Alpha science classroom: How do you make a dinosaur fossil? need

1 cup of used coffee grounds

½ cup cold coffee

1 cup of all-purpose flour

½ cup of salt

Wax paper

Mixing bowls

Small objects (small toy dinosaurs, seashells, starfish, etc.) to make impressions

An empty can, a butter knife, or a cookie cutter

Alpha science classroom: How do you make a dinosaur fossil? Steps.

Step 1:  children brew a small amount of coffee (or make a little more in the morning) and keep the coffee grounds. Let the coffee cool.

Step 2: children mix coffee powder, flour, and salt in a bowl. Slowly add the coffee little by little and mix with the dry ingredients until the mixture forms a dough. The amount of coffee you need depends on how wet the coffee grounds are.

Step 3: children scoop the dough onto wax paper. Knead for 3-4 minutes until the dough retains its shape and becomes less sticky.

Step 4: children cut out circles from the dough with a jar. You can also use a cookie cutter or butter knife to cut interesting shapes.

Step 5: children firmly press small objects into the dough to form a mark. Remove the object.

Step 6: Children can poke a small hole near the edge of the fossil with a toothpick. After the fossil is dry, you can add rope and hang it up.

Step 7: With the help of their families, the children bake in an oven at 200°F for 45 minutes. Larger or thicker fossils may take longer to harden completely.

Alpha Science Classroom: What is a fossil?

Alpha Science Toys tell the children that fossils are the remains of ancient life, found in the form of rocks in the earth's crust.

How are fossils formed?

When an organism dies, its body begins to decompose. Before it completely decomposes, the body will be buried in sediments (sand, mud, silt). Layers of sediment accumulate, and pressure turns these layers into rock. Look, fossils!

How do we know what a dinosaur looks like?

Paleontologists can determine what dinosaurs looked like by studying dinosaur fossils. Some fossils include bone parts, which tell paleontologists what their bodies look like. Other fossils include things like footprints, which tell paleontologists how dinosaurs moved around.

let us play!

Suppose you are a paleontologist. Bury your dinosaur fossils in the sandbox and dig them out!

The chemistry models of dinosaurs made by children are very successful, so put them in the process of discovery, become an archaeological process, and show your friends!  Today, the Kid's science experiments activity of Alpha Science Classroom is over. I hope these interesting kids science experiments can help children learn dinosaur knowledge and get the happiness brought by science

Alpha Science Toys also has many amazing kids' science experiment kits, full of scientific knowledge, to help children explore different science topics, what children are waiting for, future scientists, come to explore!
